St. George Art Museum - St. George, Utah

My family and I visited for Dia de los Muertos event in the evening. The event was free to the public. There was something for everyone and all ages. Inside the museum, they had live music, free Horchata, and gorgeous art downstairs and upstairs. My kids really appreciated the children’s section. It was hands on.

Outside the museum, they decorated with the colorful Mexican flags, marigolds, and a large skeleton statue. They even had cookie decorating in the hall. This was a hit with the kids and families. Who doesn’t like edible art. Then they had another art gallery where you could vote for your favorite artist to win peoples choice award. This was a round election time so it was really fun for the kids as well. They even had face painting and creative art projects that you could take home.

The most popular part of the event was the dancing and performances. The show did have some quirks to it with the sound music announcing and dancers. it is their second year doing this event. I’m sure next year will be a hit.

Overall, the property is really pretty and relaxing with a water feature and bridge. Makes for some great photos. We visited during a very populated event and still had a lot of fun. Employees or volunteers were very nice. I can’t wait to come back and view some new artwork here. The artists’ works are spectacular.

Unfortunately, the museum was closed when we got there (noon 12/3). Their website stated that they were open until 6 pm, so no one is actively managing the website. Very disappointed.

The art was awesome! Especially by the artist #SayakaGanz, who used reclaimed plastic to make beautiful three-dimensional animals (my favorite being a bright red panther).

So why one star? ? Well, I understand that not art is really "artistic". For example Sayaka Ganz work was on the upper level, the lower level had another artists' metal sculptures & paintings that just looked thrown together. Some I admit could be designs I don't get. But that's not my issue.

I understand that some artists want no photos taken of their art, so I'll respect that. But the one photo I did want to take is below, where I wanted to learn more of this Sayaka Ganz. But I was scolded for doing so, even again after I explained my reason & respect for the actual art. (btw, I had no paper or such to write down the info I wanted)

LATER they gave me the two pamphlets below, saying it had on it what I wanted to know (I don't see a website, do you?). I'm just glad I got in free today.

So cute!! They have typed up stories about the artists and the building. Local art with backgrounds unique to the area.

The museum was a nice change of pace from the other things that we have done outside all week. The local artists are really good and there are some unique day of the day focused art really enjoyed what we saw. Make sure you make a donation when you pass through.

Very interesting and eclectic mix of stuff from local artists. Take the Historic St. George tour, Friday or Saturday mornings, $10.00, character actors portraying historical figures, very well prepared, engaging, air-conditioned van takes you to several other sites, audience participation! I played a frontiersman accused of stealing water. Great time.
